The human body has a significant amount of water in it. The amount of water depends on a person’s age, and the amount of fat that is stored in the body.
Water can be as much as 75-78% of a new baby’s total weight. The percentage of water weight in the body will decrease throughout a person’s lifetime.
Fat contains less percentage of water than muscle tissue does. So the less lean a person is, the less of their body weight is made up of water. The percentage of water in the body in extreme obese people can reach as low as 45%.

An average fit adult woman generally has more fat tissue than does a man of similar fitness and age. On average an adult male may normally have around 60% water weight, a female may normally have between 56-58% water weight.

Water is your body’s most important nutrient, is involved in every bodily function. Water helps you to maintain body temperature, metabolize body fat, aids in digestion, lubricates and cushions organs, transports nutrients, and flushes toxins from your body.

Your body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues. Because your body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it’s important to re-hydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water. The amount of water you need depends on a variety of factors, but a good rule is to drink one ounce of water for half your weight. So if you weigh 100 pounds you would need to drink 50 ounces of water.

Water intake enables your body to excrete waste through perspiration, urination, and defecation. The kidneys and liver use it to help flush out waste, as do your intestines. Your digestion process starts with your saliva which is water and enzymes. Digestion relies on enzymes that are found in saliva to help break down food and liquid and to dissolve minerals and other nutrients. Proper digestion makes minerals and nutrients more accessible to the body.
If you don’t enough water, your body will pull water from your blood and other parts of the body. This can have serious implications in hypertension, high cholesterol, and heart disease. Recent studies have also linked the lack of water to headaches, arthritis, and heartburn.

So you can see water is a very large part of your body. I believe most people in the USA are very under hydrated. People need to drink more water. It has been proven that many of our illnesses start from the lack of water to flush out the body adequately. Therefore the body retains toxins and that is not a good thing.
So in conclusion; set a goal to start drinking half your body weight in water every day and see how it effects your health.
